Recently Dedham Youth Baseball has entertained the idea of moving from a Cal Ripken Charter to a Little League Charter. Moving from one Charter to another has its differences and the most noted change would be the player's age cutoff date, now aligning with the player's school grade age.
Cal Ripken has an age cut-off date of April 30th.
Little League has an age cut-off date of August 31st.
As you can imagine this age change requirement will be an adjustment to the player, if he or she falls in-between the age cut dates (birthdays between May 1st and August 31st).
As a result, for a smoother transition, Dedham Baseball will stay in Cal Ripken for the 2022 Spring Season.
However, for our 2022 Summer Season (which begins late June and ends late July) we will transition to the age dates for Little League as we intend to move into LL on full time basis spring of 2023. Enforcing the LL age in our summer season will provide two areas of interest for the players. This change will allow the adjustment needed to play at the next level
1. Players can enjoy their last year(s), mainly our 12yr olds playing in Cal Ripken small diamond for Spring and Cal Ripken tournaments.
2. Our suburban summer season will provide the player the change of competitive play of playing with others at the new LL age. This will prove to be helpful in spring 2023.
